Wednesday, 19. November 2014 14:00 - 18:00

One of the ultimate challenges in biology is to relate the genotype to the phenotype. While recent years have resulted in tremendous progress in obtaining whole genome sequences at a high rate, determining the phenotype (phenotyping) with a high throughput and good accuracy is currently the bottleneck. However, it would be key for important advances in the life sciences, ranging from dissecting fundamental biological processes over breeding of plant and animals to solving clinically relevant issues.

Plant phenotyping is a rapidly advancing field. Successful approaches to determine physiological phenotypes usually combine imaging with image processing. However, a gap often exists between plant biologists and scientists from fields that promise to significantly advance phenotyping technologies (e.g. engineers, computer and visualization scientists, physicists and mathematicians). This lack of communication results way too often in biologists working with inferior methods to solve their phenotyping problems or non-biologists developing advanced phenotyping methods that are not applicable to real-world challenges. The purpose of this workshop is to bring together scientists from these diverse disciplines who have an interest in plant phenotyping.

The workshop will be on November 19th from 2pm to 6pm in the Gregor Mendel Institute (4th floor, Orange Seminar Room).

Participation will be free but registration is required.
