Topic: Value added chemical production from glycerol by the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica

Various microorganisms have been exploited for their abilities to contribute to a bio-based economy and recent developments aim for rational design of synthetic pathways. One important organism for microbial production of bulk and fine chemicals is the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica.

The introduction of heterologous genes and the creation of gene knock-outs are often essential to open the route to a certain metabolic pathway. Two key technologies frequently used for metabolic pathway engineering are combinatorial Golden Gate cloning strategies allowing the combination of parts and genes in a rapid way and CRISPR/Cas9 mediated genome editing.
