Beschreibung:

We are Austria’s largest Research and Technology Organisation and an international player in the research areas that we cover. This makes us a leading development partner for industry and a top employer in the scientific community. Our Center for Health & Bioresources is seeking to hire a new Ingenious Partner for our location in Tulln (in immediate vicinity to Vienna):

PhD Thesis “Sensing environmental nutrients in Trichoderma reesei”

IMAGINE

  • Fungi sense their environment with a complex signaling mechanism and adjust their metabolism and production of enzymes and secondary metabolites accordingly. These adjustments influence chemical communication with other fungi as well as with plants and regulate degradation of extracellular substrates.

ENGAGE

  • We will investigate the signaling pathways triggering these adjustments to understand how fungi interact with their environment. Thereby, we understand the regulation of important enzymes and toxins, as well as potential pharmaceuticals.
  • We are looking for novel regulators and yet unknown mechanisms of adaptation of fungi to their environment, which we can apply to optimize industrial processes.
  • We will apply diverse molecular biological techniques, including genomics and other omics analyses.

ACHIEVE

  • You publish research results at conferences and in international journals.
  • You will gain international visibility.
  • Thereby you will contribute to application of findings from natural phenomena in industrial production settings.

Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner (m/f):

  • You hold a master degree in biotechnology, genetics, molecular biology or a related field.
  • Knowledge of bioinformatic techniques will be beneficial and at least basic understanding of signaling pathways in fungi is welcome.
  • Highly-motivated, willing to interact and contribute scientifically to our team.
  • Excellent communication skills in English both in spoken and written.

What to expect:

EUR 2.162,40 gross for 30 hours/week based on the collective agreement. There will be additional company benefits! As a research institution, we are familiar with the supervision and execution of PhD theses and we are looking forward to supporting you accordingly.

At AIT, the promotion of young female scientists is important to us - that's why we are especially looking forward to applications from ambitious female candidates!
