Beschreibung:

We are Austria’s largest research and technology organisation and an international player in applied research for innovative infrastructure solutions. This makes us a powerful development partner for industry and a top employer in the scientific community. Our Center for Health & Bioresources in Tulln (in immediate vicinity of Vienna) invites applications for a:

Master Thesis „Development and characterization of composite seed coatings with Trichoderma species“

IMAGINE

  • Microbial bioeffectors including Pseudomonas sp., Bacillus sp. and Trichoderma sp. are promising alternatives to chemical pesticides to protect plants from disease, but respective formulations often suffer from poor shelf life and inconsistent field performance.
  • Our overarching goal is therefore to develop green composite formulations from synthetic, renewable and/or biobased resources to significantly improve the performance of microbial seed coatings, especially with Trichoderma species.

ENGAGE

  • You will prepare formulations for seed coatings of maize including Trichoderma sp., polymers, (nano)fillers, surfactants and protectants and investigate their effect on the overall performance.
  • You will characterize the coatings in terms of microbial viability, shelf life, abrasion, surface homogeneity and morphology and compare to coatings with bacteria.

ACHIEVE

  • You will increase your knowledge and experience in a cutting-edge topic.
  • You will gain experience in working within an international group of scientists.
  • A selected set of microbial seed coatings will be evaluated in a field test in 2020.

Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner*:

  • Profound expertise in (bio)chemistry, material science or related fields
  • Experience in laboratory work
  • Enthusiasm for scientific work
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Good communication skills in English both in spoken and written

What to expect:

EUR 719,51 gross per month for 20 hours/week based on the collective agreement. There will be additional company benefits. As a research institution, we are familiar with the supervision and execution of master theses and we are looking forward to supporting you accordingly!
